my wife wants to give "end of the year" gifts and as gifts she wants to give wine, to the teachers ands latchkey providers. all are over the age of 21, I don't feel this is a good idea for a couple of reasons, it's on school grounds, and I'm not sure how the principal would react to this. Also I'm worried that if someone were to get drunk and have an accident, we will end up being sued. I've tried to explain this, but she doesn't feel there is anything wrong with it. we live in oakland county michigan

You cannot get sued for giving someone a gift of wine...no matter when or where they choose to drink that wine. I also think its highly unlikely that any teacher or latchkey program employee would drink the wine on school property.

thank you, that helps, i was worried if they got into an accident after drinking. Everyone seems so "sue happy" anymore. I forgot to mention the school has a policy of no alcohol on grounds at any time.

If there is a policy of no alcohol on school grounds, then why would your wife bring alcohol on to school grounds?

This is really a bad idea.

believe me I agree 100%, at the time she wanted to she wasn't aware of the policy, it wasn't until I looked it up on the shools website, but she still wanted to ask the princiapl, thinking his word would be final on the matter, but I also explained that while he may have an opinion about it, he is not the final authority on it, the school board is, and it's their policy for the district. Did I mention she's a very stubborn woman?

Bad idea. Wine is a poor choice for a gift unless you know for sure the person enjoys wine. For one thing, some people flat out don't like wine. Also, do you know for a fact they aren't alcoholics?

That was one of my arguments as well, alcohol is not an easy gift to give when you are unsure of the persons reaction.
