What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Hello all. Thank you in advance for your help. And yes, I know I should get an attorney but I cannot afford one. I've been doing pretty well with this case so far, with the help of some of the defense attorneys representing others in this case. However, I do have a question about a Request for Production of Documents. I just received a notice of deposition. Basically, the plaintiff attorney wants to depose me and has requested me to produce documents. I do not have, nor I ever had any of the documents he is asking for. He is asking for documents related to my employment at a place I worked at 7 years ago as well as anything related to my business relationship (that never existed) with an individual at that company. I do not have anything to give him. So, my question is, how do I respond? Thank you all!

You simply respond in writing telling the Plaintiff you don't have the documents they are asking for. If you don't respond, they may compel you to respond and the judge will add monetary sanctions against you, so you have to respond!
