I suspect they don't want to give a person false hopes. Obviously it is serious but the information I have read seems to be more optimistic about the prognosis than the people you have spoken with. I don't know squat about bearded dragons so take what I say with that in mind.

There appears to be a lot of information on the web about this. Heck, one guy was treating his lizard with medicine used to treat human (female) yeast infections and betadine. I would suggest researching this a lot before writing off the dragons for goners.

After thinking about this overnight - and reading beardeddragon.org as well as writing to a number of members - the survivability of yellow fungus is indeed variable. Some live for years with the condition. Some perish rather quickly. The local breeders I spoke to have told me that so long as the visible attributes are limited to patches and discoloration, it can, like many human diseases, be treated. No one I talked to ever said they had 'cured' it.

I wrote the seller and asked what could be done in way of a compromise. She then offered to take them back, sign the termination agreement and treat them at her employers. I will still need, of course, to take my male to the vet and get him tested. After the winter (dragons don't usually hibernate, but they do brumate - a "lighter" form of hibernation, but in any event, they don't breed in the winter), I will PURCHASE a couple of healthy females.

I'll bet ya'll have learned more about beardies than you'd ever have wanted, eh? I've learned a great deal, too. My assumptions nearly cost me dearly. I thank those of you who participated and helped me.

yes, I have learned some about beardies. I have never been overly interested in them but since my wife would absolutely freak out if I had anything like that in the house, it really wouldn't make any difference how much I wanted one.

Take care and best of luck.
