I think we have it figured out, from the state statute. He was charged with neglect, and received a "notice of child maltreatment determination". Those are completely different words so he just wants to make sure he knew what he was up against for his appeal. I have learned the exact wording matters.
He is pretty computer illiterate, and obviously this isn't something he can ask the kids for help with. He is away from his home during the week for work and the temporary court order. The system is failing these children, horribly. The child involved needs help, but mom had refused to take him to the counseling sessions. She is pitting the child against dad.
I watch these kids one day a week, and because he (child) is so out of control, I even called his caseworker for some guidance when he puts himself in danger and all I got was, "don't touch him." But, do call 911 if he hurts himself. Okay - that does not help. I have a friend that works with DCF and she tells me the same thing. I complained that we are seeking help, are given none, yet the state is very quick to judge when things go wrong. All I get is a *shrug*.
I do appreciate all I have learned from this forum and will continue to echo it to dad. Thanks again.
