re: the pleasure of fighting tickets yourself

It is not really all that nice, or fun. It can actually be stressful at times and also time and money consuming to fight tickets. I feel it is a worthy endeavor regardless if you have the time or not. Something is always sacrificed in its place. Meaning i could have been spending my time doing something else more pleasurable or improving upon my quality of life. I feel as american's we all have a duty to make an effort to learn about our government, participate in it, and get hands on with it now and then. If not we are just taking it all for granted and not contributing towards its betterment.

re: alternative to hiring lawyers

For traffic cases, the alternative is usually getting a book on how to fight your ticket, & utilizing online community for support. Also joining an organization like the National Motorist Association is a great resource for DIY'ers. Traffic school is an option but then in my opinion its not exactly justice or fair treatment. The convicted person has to live with upsetting idea of being exploited by a money grubbing system of laws and politics that pretends to be concerned for public safety.

re: hiring lawyers

After struggling to learn about law and self represent, i have a lot more respect for what lawyers do. I can also better understand why they are paid so well. I believe my experience with fighting traffic tickets has caused me to place more value on the idea of hiring a lawyer when needed and compensating them fairly for their time and expertise. when I can afford it, i would gladly hire a lawyer. I have in the past for a misdemeanor case (thousands of dollars).

I haven’t been on this site for a while, so I just read this thread for the first time today. I am shocked. Everyone knows that there ain’t no justice in traffic court… but this is really reprehensible. I have filed appeals (and even won). It’s not that hard… but as was said before, you must cross all the t’s and dot all the I’s. There is a good tutorial at http://helpigotaticket.com/appeal/index.html . But, do yourself a favor. Go read the applicable rules of court for yourself to ensure you are doing everything right. The forms can be found at http://www.courts.ca.gov/forms.htm?filter=TR . If you look at the instructions on the forms, they refer you to the applicable rules. Please continue to post here your progress and ask any questions you may have. I’d really like to see this stupid judge get overturned.

Perhaps you can try and learn about the laws in the areas where you plan to drive and that way you won't find yourself screwed by your own careless and unwarranted disregard for those laws or further tormented by your ineptitude and inability to defend yourself properly!

Traffic school is an option but then in my opinion its not exactly justice or fair treatment.
Are you trying to fool us or convince yourself? Traffic school is the ideal solution for someone who is in your predicament. It presents an opportunity for you to learn about the laws and it helps you avoid carrying a conviction on your record.

The convicted person has to live with upsetting idea of being exploited by a money grubbing system of laws and politics that pretends to be concerned for public safety.
Lawd Have Mercy... This is the same system of justice that you hope will help you prevail, underservingly so I see. The convicted person should assume some responsibility for breaking the law. After all, it was not a law the was enacted just to convict you. Its been there for years and you chose to ignore it. Your mistake was a threat to safety. You could have injured, maimed or killed somebody. The officer's mistake did not impact your case at all. You had no defense no matter which letter was charged and you've clearly demonstrated that you had no defense. You presented none. And the hypocrisy of your describing the system as being "a money grubbing system" is further highlighted by your own statement that the judge changed the code to the (b) section and reduced your fine. He didn't have to but he did. He could have arranged for the code to change to (a).

You make it quite easy to feel less and less sympathy for you. And more that you deserved what you were served.

Perhaps you should review your calendar reading skills. The last time the OP posted in this thread was on 08/14/2013... Not even ONE month ago!

If you're incapable of reading dates, then you should refrain from commenting on matters that are date related.
