While it's their property, I believe I am lawfully leasing it and am current on my payments, and therefore I should have an expectation not to be bothered as long as it is being used in a lawful manner. A landlord is not authorized to enter a tenent's quarters without their permission, even though he/ she owns the property. A bank cannot take your car and do something to it just because they hold the lien on it while you are making payments. I would think this falls under the same category.
You can opt to have them read it or you read it.

Periodically though they will want to read it.

You do not lease the meter.

The utility owns it.

Without it installed , you could go to the county well and do things the old fashion way.

They have a right to change the meter out.

You purchased or rented with the meter installed.

You have denied access and they noticed you of termination.

Once terminated , I bet you change your mind.

Pull up you drug operation and let them in , or take stem baths with rocks.

When did I do this? I do not believe I ever signed any agreement with them whatsoever.
Perhaps you should visit their website , or go in person and ask for the policy that allows them to change the meter out , etc. in writing.

For someone offering legal advice, you seem quite cavalier about exposing yourself to libel.

I have done this. They are mailing me these regulations; they are not available online, which also strikes me as shady. Of course, one hopes it gets here within the week.

No matter what you think, you will need to comply or you will be terminated. Period. This is not some untested area of the law. If you disagree get an attorney and fight it. You will lose, but you could delay things for a while. Get your bucket of money ready to pay for the litigation.

You agree to their terms as a condition of receiving service. Your signature on a document is not required.

Obviously you came here hoping for somebody to validate your belief and are frustrated that nobody is doing that so you continue to argue. You have received legally correct advice.

You have received legally correct advice.
Are you a lawyer? Or perhaps a judge? Passed the bar in NY, sitting on a bench in Monroe County?
I may be receiving consistent advice, but I think it's a stretch to assert it is legally correct advice if you are not qualified to make that claim.

I am entirely certain that it is legal for them to terminate service if you do not comply with their requirement to service the meter.

If you don't believe me, go ahead and see what happens. You might want to stock up on hand sanitizer. :p

That's my point. Claiming that this is legally correct information is an assumption not supported by available facts and improperly researched, therefore unreliable, and making such a claim is not appropriate.

Honestly, I was looking for ways to fight this, as I feel it is rather high-handed. I really don't care so much about the meter being replaced, it's merely annoying and inconvenient; but I don't like the attitude at all (We will come into your house and replace this working piece of equipment and if you don't like it we'll shut off your water). The general consensus is there is no practical way to fight this, which is frustrating. I also have gotten the feeling that most people here are rude, dismissive, accusatory, and ignorant, which is disappointing. At least two people have implied or expressed I was involved in illegal or deceptive activities, which is outrageous.

My advice to most of these advice-givers is, stop giving advice. They suck at it.

You suck even worse at receiving it. You were the cry baby that would take his ball and go home when someone didn't play your way.

The only ignorance here is coming from you. As to the other things, well one has that leeway when they are dispensing free advice. You seem to have trouble distinguishing direct answers to your questions from rudeness. People here generally don't "beat around the bush" when giving advice.

If you refuse to let them change the meter, please come back and let us all know how that worked out for you.

Case in point. How would anyone trust advice given by someone going out of his way to be dismissive, rude, and mocking? Are you 12? This forum is worthless.
