Unfortunately that perception is smothering our nation's youth.

This is why so many young adults are completely clueless when it comes to living in the real world.
Gads, I hear that all the time ... kids getting bent because someone doesn't show THEM respect when they refuse to make a similar accommodation even to their elders or those in authority - like parents, teachers, employers, and even the police.

And I have seen kids injured and KILLED over issues of alleged "respect." I strongly suspect that most kids have no real idea what the word actually means.

No, honey, you don't get respect simply because you breathe.
Umm. Nobody does. Not real respect anyway. It's how you act.
I respect the principal because he deserves it, even if he does follow every little policy to the word. There are teachers at school that everyone respects because of how they act/teach/treat people. There are teachers that get fake respect because they're dam scary but nobody really respects them behind their back. There are teachers who are a**** because there are people in life who are a**** and a**** have trouble getting real respect.
I respect my boss because of how he treats people. I respect my parents. And my mom's house, I'm not going to have a Project X party in her house while she's away because...no. Not happening.

Some of you are starting to sound a little bit like "get off my lawn"ers.
