i recently started receiving social security for 1334 a month because im disabled it is permanant my problem is they docked 250 for free housing which isnt free my roommate just waited out me getting the social security the problem is now i wanna move and the deduction is hurting the bottom line on my monthly income. my roommate is married but estranged from his wife for over 6 years and he is my boyfriend. im not on the lease cus i have an eviction on my record and i dont know how to get that 250 dollar deduction removed by social security do i need a lawyer

But you ARE receiving free rent. Your married boyfrend is letting you live there rent-free. As long as that continues, then SS is justifiably deducting the money from your benefit amount.

The best way to get the deduction removed is to show that you are actually PAYING rent and not just claiming that you are so that you can get the additional $250 boost. Can't do that until you actually START paying rent, though, and EARNING the additional benefit amount.

Kind of a catch-22 situation you put yourself in, there.

i never saw this coming i do pay the rent now (half) should i give him money orders i want our stuff seperate cuz he owes back taxes from when he was married i dont want to be legally connected to him and am trying to move

i dont know if im getting ssi or early retirement but its based on my wages i know that i just got it in september so im learning im confused too


You really do need to find out exactly what it is because SSI and SSDI and other disability awards can vary greatly in terms of who can garnish the monies.

i should say when he was married and physically with her also the fact that he didnt divorce her (couldnt afford it) makes it even worse on being legally tied to him because who knows what shes done to his credit in the last 6 years i really dont want to legally be associated with him till he gets all this straightened out and i dont feel obligated to one pay for his divorce and two pay for his back taxes

thank you this is all so helpful when i call social security they basically treat me like an idiot and no one wants to explain anything i feel like im in the dark. sorry i am confused and when i call ss they think i know them like the back of their hands i DONT this is so frustrating and thats why i think i need a lawyer

i dont know i just know its based on my wages i was married before and that was factored in im older (almost 50) ive worked for 35 Yyears taxable thats what i do know and now im even more confused i think i need a lawyer from what youre saying

point blank am i being screwed by ssi im looking out for my interests not my boyfriends he has way too many issues that happened long before my time and im not paying for those

also in the two years ive been off work ive used up 8000 in ira got child support sporadically and income tax based on eic credits all contributing just not monthly more like paying forward i have no income so yes ive held my own with the rent

i Qnt that 250 so bad because its holding up me moving and theres no way i can count him financially in that with his baggage it has to be on what i have financally

im dead set on moving its just how nice of a place i can get im trapped here cuz i have breathing issues and cant handle the stairs as fars as laundry grocerys up and down etc i need to move i need help with this i need to get on a ground level
