What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? mass

im looking to trade something for a vehicle but the seller says he filed for a new title and does not have it yet and says that he will provided copy of receipt from dmv and write in the comment section of the bill of sale stating that the buyer will send new title in the mail. is he obligated to do so and if not is he held responsible

run...do not walk...but run away from this deal.


while he would be legally obligated to upholding his contract, the fact remains, if he is scamming you, he likely has things arranged such that getting your money back once you discover his ruse, well, best of luck.


Wait for the title to show up before you give him as a deposit anything more than you are willing to lose should he disappear.

Court calendars are overflowing with lawsuit attempting to enforce another's promise to do something in the future.

If you want to take a chance that you won’t end up with a vehicle that you cannot register and your lawsuit on the court calendar, go for it.
