Carpool ticket. HOV TICKET. HELP

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California. I got a HOV TICKET IN San Francisco during the Bart strike(10-18-2013). I didn't know they opened the carpool lanes for 24 hours due to BART closing. Do I have a hope and prayer beating this ticket. I'm an hour away from court. Any advice would be great.
