I recently had a total hip replacement and a friend let me stay at her place to recover since i live upstairs and she's on the first floor. The other day i had left to run some errands and now she is locking me out and telling me i better have money or she won't give me my belongings. How should i handle this? I was just a guest for 2 weeks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Call the police and see if they will escort you to get your belongings from her house. If that doesn't work, file a small claims lawsuit against her.

There was no agreement for money, but i did buy all of the food while i was there. And my belongings contain my hospital bed, my walker, medicines and medical equipment, plus a few personal items like my clothes, my computer, and paperwork that i need.

No agreement. I just bought the food to help out, plus it was to feed me as well. I'm back at my upstairs apartment. I'm not sure what u mean in the last part. Ransom meaning money in exchange for my belongings?

No. Different friend. And you would mean the ones that had been to my house before, knew the living situation, which could be verified by the owner who lives up front and his son is a cadet, and who kicked all the doors in for no reason? And Me with a verifiable broken hip. They did it just to be jerks and abuse their authority under the color of law. But that's a different thread. And thanks for noticing. However, in your opinion, how do u feel is the best and peaceful way to handle that situation? Oh yeah, i did leave out the part that this so called friends was high on pills and had her kids toss all of my stuff into the garage. Then kicking me out. I just had major surgery, i was bedridden.

Normally I would advise you to call the police and see if they would assist you as an earlier poster suggested; however, in your case I'm not sure that would be good advice.

Perhaps the poster can get a loyalty punch card. Every five visits by the police get a free night's lodging?
