What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

I am 16 years old, class of 2015. With the recent law change on compulsory attendance, I am confused. Am I able to drop out without parents permission? What do I have to do?

You must do as your parents direct until you are 18. If they don't want you to drop out, you don't drop out.

No, I do not have to do as they direct. I can move out when I am 17. There was a recent law change, and everything I read hasn't explained well enough. I would like an answer about this, not a false statement.

And, it is not entirely true you can move out at 17.

Ruin your life as much as you want. Don't expect the rest of us to deal with the consequences.

Why would you do such a dumb thing? Have you "googled" the stat's on HSDO?? Do you want your future comments to start with " Do you want fries with your order?"?:(

Here is a direct link to what justalayman provided above: http://www.legislature.mi.gov/documents/mcl/pdf/mcl-380-1561.pdf

Age is one (important) factor looked at. There could potentially be others (although Attheedge has not indicated any of these other factors apply).

High school drop-outs tend not to fare well, in Michigan or elsewhere.
