hello everyone i will keep this short and simple, basically i use a adult cam website and i mentioned the name of my mothers boss on the adult website and someone in the chat room made a fake profile of my mothers boss and he found out about it and now he is saying he will have me put in jail, all i did was mention his name, i had nothing to do with making the fake profile and i have no idea who made the profile, i contacted the admin of the website and asked to have it removed but so far no response, does my mothers boss have a legal or civil case against me?, as far as i know it is not against the law to mention someones name, i would love any help or advice i can get, and i can prove i did not make the the fake profile.

(How would you prove it wasn't you?)

I have to ask. What on earth were you thinking? There is absolutely no valid reason to have mentioned this person.

Now you're not going to jail, but he can make your life miserable for awhile.

What exactly is a "adult cam website"?

Why did you mention your mothers boss name on the site?

Thanks
Blue

Because of the type of website in question, your mother's boss potentially has an invasion of privacy/false light claim he could pursue, just by your connecting him by name to the site - this even without the creation of a fake profile (which could lead to a defamation suit).

If you are served with a summons and complaint, you should seek the assistance of an attorney in your area. Save your "proof" that you did not create the profile for that time, should it arrive.

Your mother might want to start looking for another job.

Generally speaking its a site where an individual can log on and then watch a woman (or a man) perform either sexual acts on the other side, or walk around a room or home that's been equipped with cameras at different angles, all while wearing provocative (or none) clothing and living their normal lives. Its literally paying for voyeurism.

Clearing some things up

hi all thanks for the reply's so far, basically we were going to use my mother's boss'es house in fla for vacation and i guess i just wanted to boast about it, and thats the truth, as far as proving it was not me who made the profile, it would show by the ip adress, as i said the only thing i did was mention his name, and yes it is a adult cam website and i don't know if i can give the name of it, but i just chat with people there, i have given my mothers boss all of my usernames and passwords to the adult website as well as my email adress, i have nothing to hide, i think he should be upset with the person who made the profile, because if cops were to come and interview me then they would take my computer to look at the hardrive and they would see all i did was mention his name in my chat room and that i had nothing to do with the actual making of the profile, i will answer any questions you all may have, thanks for the help.

Alas, that does not prove that you didn't make the profile.

As we know, ISPs can be spoofed - and you could have made it from a library, a coffeeshop...see where I'm going?

In addition to what Proserpina said, it CAN BE against the law to mention someone's name. It depends on how it is used. You managed to find one of the ways to use a name that could get you sued.

If your mother's boss decides to pursue legal action against you (which is possible although probably unlikely), and you receive a summons and complaint indicating you are being sued, I recommend you seek the help of an attorney in your area.

oh yes i understand 100 percent, but i am not computer smart at all, i really think my mothers boss is making a mountain out of a molehill, i've never been in any trouble before in my life, now i know this may sound crazy but eventually i do want to go back to the adult cam website, only because a woman i have known for 4 years is there, strictly in the online sense, the issue is i have no idea when the people on the website will forget about my mom's boss and his name,i'm on ssi and i do not have the money for a attorney, i've called several attorneys and explained what happened and they have all told me that this is not a criminal case, i mean does anyone have any insight as to what i can do?,thanks for all of the help so far, to me this seems like a open and shut case, meaning no legal action against me, am i correct in thinking this?.

There will be no criminal case.

But there could still be a civil case.

What's more important though is that you're on SSI. This makes collecting any judgment impossible.

(They can't touch SSI or SSDI)

Please remember though - you might think it's a molehill, but it's not about what you think. It's about what HE thinks.

hi prosperpina, you are correct it only matters what my mothers boss thinks, but i am relieved to know that he can not touch my ssi and that also this is not a criminal case, i made a mistake as everyone else in the world has done in their life, hopefully this whole situation can come to a positive ending, i'm simply just trying to cover as many bases as i possibly can.

I just want to add something (it doesn't apply to you, but others might benefit).

SSI cannot be garnished by anyone, anywhere, ever.

SSDI can be garnished, but only by the government - think IRS/tax debt or past due child support.

Other than that? You're what's known as "judgment proof".

(Also, Kentucky is very generous in terms of exemptions)
