Hi, If anyone can offer some advice, I'm more than willing to read it. :)

We live next to the pool and main office in our apartment community. Management installed a new sound system at the pool a few weeks ago. We can hear the music, mainly the bass, at all times, when music is on. Have gone down to the office multiple times. They will turn down, but then turn it back up next day. What are my options as a tenant, with the landlord making the noise? Also, a lot of times, the music is still on thru the night.

Name your State .

If in the US see what your local noise ordance says through inspections office ,get a copy if nessesary.

Other than that noise is usually exeptable during the days perhaps till 10 PM .

Take your findings to managent and demand the ordanace is followed. If not call the Law during the unlawful times .

You can also keep asking to turn it down as you are next to it or adjust the Bass.

Believe me I know how incredibly uncomfortable it can be to hear the bass all the time. Ask them nicely to put the bass at a lower level permanently, with signs etc., telling people not to increase the bass. That could make all of the difference in the world.

Thank you everyone for your advice. :)

I have gone down to the office 4 times. Each time, they did turn down the music, but the last time the manager rolled her eyes at me, and even told me how it wasn't loud, when I could hear every lyric to the song clearly from our living room. And tonight I spoke with one of the office workers (after hours), and she told me that nothing is going to change and suggested that I move to a different apartment within the community. But why should we?

Also, I've even called the police on them, and thought that had taken care of the noise, because the music was turned down a lot. Then it wasn't even on for days, but probably because the pool was closed. Well, this morning, around 9:20am, the music came back on full-force, and it's still on at 10:30pm. I've tried to get the tenants below us to put in complaints with us, but they won't, and they've actually decided to move.

Soooo.... Where does this leave us? After we have dinner, and I collect my thoughts, I'm going to contact the police and file a complaint. By this time, it should be around midnight. Sitting here right now hearing the bass...

Someone I spoke to today suggested that I go downtown to Night Court to file a petition for the noise? Has any of you ever heard of doing that?

At this point, we're just so sick of hearing the music.

Thanks again! :)

And what state are you in???

It matters! Some states might require there be an ordinance governing the issue, others might permit you merely to complain that your peace is being disturbed for a crime report - or arrest (usually a citation) - to occur.

So, please, indicate your state. And, if you can, what city you live in as there may be applicable local ordinances as well.

Well if you are otherwise comfotable in the complex , get a tranfer away from the noise to a quiet unit . Don't see no harm in that .Ask managent to for maintainace to help you relocate. Might work.

Hi, We live in Nashville, TN (Davidson County). I contacted the police last night. He got here around midnight. He heard the music and asked me what apartment the manager lived in, but I didn't know. He was going to write her a citation. He was able to contact the courtesy officer and the music got turned off within 10 minutes.

Thank you for the suggestion. We've been wanting to move for some time now, so this just put the icing on the cake. We've been here for almost 5 years, and have never had to deal with anything like this before. At least not this bad. Also feel we can't approach the manager, as she acted pretty crazy last time I did. It's all really unnecessary.
