Thank you for this- i dont bring him up or even mention him to her (for obvious reasons) but i know that the time will come and she is already asking every now and then and my response is always "he had to go away for a little while".. thanks again for sharing this with me.
It may help your child to have a pic of Dad...Just to see what he looks like. If you don't have one ask his family.

I have a few stashed away in case the day arises that she would like one... Along with the last birthday card he gave her thinking that in the future she might want those..

OP - it is much easier to deal with questions like this from a little one than from a teen. The idea of giving her a picture or two (which really, she should have had all along, IMO) is a good one.

You may want to find a different way of saying why he's gone. The "he had to go away for a little while" can confuse her when you have to "go away for a little while" (ie, to work, to school, to an appt.).
