What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I have a question regarding sales tax and discounts the way it was calculated on this purchase.

Does this look correct pouting taxes in front of the discount and then recalculate the tax again

purchase 12,193.14
delivery 89.00
total 12,282.14
tax 9% 1,097.38
total 13,395.52
store coupon -2,388.82
subtotal 9,893.32
tax 882.39
TOTAL 10,775.71

IMO if done right the total shod be 10,711.11

thanks.... mike

I don't know if this is something that can be answered in this forum

Tax is applied to the total and then the discount is deducted.

EDIT: Ok, you found the tax and then added the $89 delivery fee in.

$12,193.14 * 9% = $1,097.38 (as you said)
$13,379.52 is the total.
Then you take off a discount of $2,388.82 which leaves you with 10,990.70.

The only incorrect calculation in that list is the first total, $13,395.52. That should read $13,379.52. All others are correct assuming the tax was calculated from the discounted price and delivery was nontaxed.

$12,193.14 + $89 = $12,282.14

Delivery non-taxed.
Tax s/b calculated on the non-discounted price.

For the OP: What is the nature of the "discount" and what are you purchasing? And, from whom?

The discount is 20%

Cabinets from Ikea

If I get the discount from the selling price 12,193,14 - 20% 2,438.62 = 9,754.52 +89.00 delivery=9843.52+tax 885.90 =10,729.42

I was charged 10,775.71

I don't have calculator in front of me so they mite be some cents missing here or their

No one found anything wrong with this invoice

I guess I am scammed $64.00 and at this point I don't know who got the money Ikea or the Gov.

It appears your conflict is with the amount of the discount. All the other math for the final calculation checks out based on the amounts you provided.

You expected a discount of 20% on the entire cabinet purchase, which would have been $2438.63, yet you stated they only gave you a discount of $2388.82, a difference of nearly $50. This was likely due to some part of your purchase not being discounted, perhaps some required hardware or a sink or other accessory.

I don't understand where the confutation is, the math is correct I am not looking to find a flaw in it my question is? is it legal and proper receipt when you tax the total amount and then discount why will you discount the tax and then re-tax the balance.

this is what the receipt looks like

purchase 12,193.14
delivery 89.00
total 12,282.14
tax 9% 1,097.38
total 13,395.52
store coupon -2,388.82
subtotal 9,893.32
tax 882.39
TOTAL 10,775.71
