Hello I have a friend who has a felony warrant in NY and he was arrested in Kentucky and sat 5 days in jail on a DUI and the warrant. His charges here in ky are done and when he went to court a week later while he was incarcerated NY never came to got him and the courts let him go. Now if they wanted him they would have came and got him right? And can he finally start over her? Is he safe as long as he stays away from NY?

Nope, until he gets the NY issue taken care of, he's at risk to be locked up any time he gets detained by law enforcement and they run a warrant check on him.

What I don't understand is why didn't NY come get him? And he is going to take care of it its just the saving up money for a decent lawyer first part.

The warrant will not "disappear" until the conditions of the warrant are satisfied and a judge vacates the warrant.

Anytime this individual gets stopped and a warrant check is run this will appear and he will at least be temporarily detained if not arrested and jailed pending a contact with the originating agency to confirm the warrant.

Many times an originating agency will request that the subject be held for some time for extradition but then it never ends up happening and the subject will be released. This can happen over and over again until the warrant is vacated.

Of course, folks who have felony warrants tend not to be the smartest people and often will get stopped by the police for doing other stupid things.
