What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IL

Question is: Can a divorce case be initiated in U.S. (IL) if another divorce case between the same two people is already in progress elsewhere (in Europe)?

The couple separated for a few years. One is living in Europe, another one - in U.S. Both are residents in corresponding countries (on visas, not citizens).

Any property in the United States that was bought during the marriage? Any retirement earned in the United States? Any assets in the United States? Has the person in Europe ever lived in the United States? Do they own property in the United states?

Yes, to getting more information from a European lawyer. Not to get deep into non-American law, per the forum rules, but the impact in Europe may be different if the parties are EU citizens or non-EU citizens (or one of each).

I still want answers to my questions. Because a European court would not have jurisdiction over property in the United States. And if either party is seeking support of some kind that can be complicated as well.
