IRON GATES INSTALLED at Apt doors

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NYC
Four years ago i had a break into my apartment...Detectives came, did an investigation, etc etc
i then requested permission from landlord to have 2 wrought iron gates(with lock and key)
to be installed by a reputable gate installer ( i paid for it ) Landlord approved of the gates Now due to what i think is
a personal vendetta and an excuse to try to get tenants out of the bldg (because real estate it going thru the roof in nyc, the landlord
is now demanding that gates be uninstalled (taken down) I submit that because the landlord has not given me or shown me a written citation or violation
by FDNY or a Housing Inspector the gates can stay and are legal CAN YOU ADVISE thank you for your time and attention

Landlord's property. He can have the gates taken down if he wishes.

Depending on where your apartment is (floor) and where the gates are (eg, fire escape), they may very well be violating the fire code.

Regardless, the lease still controls, so start there. If there is nothing written, then the landlord can revoke his consent with the same amount of notice as he could terminate the tenancy (usually one month for standard apartments).
