What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oregon
Hello,
Thank you in advance for reading and for any advice.
My wife and I are trying to rent our house to a preschool, but we can't find an insurer who will write us a homeowner's policy. We like the preschool owners a lot and have already begun preparations for their move in, so we'd like to go through with this rental, but not if it means we can't insure our home.
We've been told by others in a similar situation that they just got regular homeowner's insurance and didn't mention that they were renting to a preschool. Actually, these people told their insurance agent they were renting to a preschool and he said to just not mention it. This sounds kind of sketchy to us. We're worried that if something happened and we filed a claim, that if the insurance company found out that a preschool was operating out of the home they would deny our claim.
Do you know of any companies that will write a policy in this situation?
To be clear, we own the home but we are not the one's running the preschool. We will be renting to a preschool. Apparently there is a law in Oregon that says a preschool can operate out of a home in a neighborhood if one of the owners is living in the home, which is true in our case. There is a large upstairs that will be her personal space.
Thanks. I look forward to hearing from you.
