falling object from truck hit my car on highway..what to do?

So when I came to work this morning, some hard object fell off a UHaul rental truck in front of me and hit my bumper and made a visible dent/sctrach. I took a picture of the truck with the license plate and went to work..

is there any kind of action I can take?

Call your insurance company and explain the situation and see what they suggest. The other alternative would be to contact U-Haul and attempt to make a claim through them. It could however be problematic that you did not call the police to report/document the damage.

What is the name of your state, michaerlscai?

Yes, there is action you can take. You can report the accident to your insurance company and, depending on your state and all facts, the UHaul driver could have violated a law by driving with an unsecured load, so you could also notify the police.

edit to add: I see from your other posts that you are located in California. Here is the law (CVC 24002(a)) on unsecured loads:

I also see from your other posts that things like trees have hit your car in the past. Perhaps you might want to invest in a Humvee/tank?

I will call my insurance company, I guess it will be hard to prove anything on a situation like this. my deductable is 1000 so no help there. Yes in california I better drive a tank!

You have no idea what it was?

I don't understand why you wouldn't have called 911 as you were following the truck and reported the incident. Maybe the truck could have been stopped. At the very least you should have filed a police report.

U-haul is alot more decentralized than alot of rental firms - you might have to make many phone calls to get any information.

Yes in california I better drive a tank!

I'm in southern California and have been driving for the better part of three decades. I've had exactly -zero- incidents of an object falling off of a vehicle and hitting my car. I've had one incident where I avoided this (about 28 years ago) and one incident wherein a car in another lane was involved in an accident and a small piece of debris bounced on to my car, causing no damage (about 15 years ago.)
