Murray’s Liquors v. ABCC, 48 Mass. App. Ct. 100, 104 (1999) Case is still cited today and the statute hasn't been changed to allow out of state licenses.
That case says that the retailer would be in trouble if the (non-listed) ID turns out to be fake, NOT that it can't be accepted. In other words, it's at the retailer's peril. Retailers most certainly CAN accept VALID out-of-state ID. They can also choose not to.

By the same token, a retailer also isn't protected when accepting a MA issued id card that is obviously fake or obviously does not belong to the person who presents it.

In other words you simply won't admit that you're wrong and that you've never heard about the full faith and credit clause.
