Hackers can do a great deal of damage with all sorts of information. And they have.

This does not mean that private and personal financial and medical data should no longer be collected and stored. It just means that those who are charged with collecting and storing the information should have as many safeguards in place as possible that can work to thwart hackers. But it is evident that nothing is really safe from hackers.
