My husbands parents are getting divorced and his dad (my father-inlaw) said that he needed my husband social security number to fill out paper work with his divorce attorney. We both think this is weird sense he is not a minor and thus there would be no custody issues regarding him in the divorce, and he is married so he can't be claimed as a dependent on taxes. Is there any legitimate reason my father in law would need my husbands social security number for paper work with his divorce attorney?
