Hi, I applied for SSDI 04/2015, with the date of 02/2014 when my Severe Depression intensified and I lost my job. I had worked 34 years and paid over $80,000 into SS. I received a Medical approval for $2174 yesterday pending nonmedical approval which confuses me as they did that up front and said I was eligible.

My real confusion lies in that they have deemed my EOD start date of 08/2015 which is just 2 months ago. Obviously, I had these conditions when I applied in 04/2015 and now have to wait till 02/2016 for my first check with no lump sump back pay for all the months I was waiting.

. I am very grateful that I was approved on my first attempt, so am I pushing my luck to challenge the EOD date?

Thank you in advance for any insight to my question (s).

You might be. Its rare to be approved for a mental/emotional disability on the first go around. Its actually hard to get approved at all for a mental/emotional disability. Generally the people who get approved on the first go around are those with sudden and profound physical disabilities.

Thanks LdiJ

After my intial appilication, I went for a routine checkup, and had to go to the ER for heart arrhythmia symptoms and Venus Stacius in both legs. They weren't on my application but I did contact my caseworker who received my updated records in 09/15.

When did these additional medical issues surface?

The only thing I can think of is you would not have qualified without the additional issues and they showed up 8/15 and the combined issues were what qualified you and as such established the onset date when they surfaced.

Venostasis (venous stasis) wouldn't turn a denial into an approval if the original complaint is for mental health issues.

I think your right, at that doctor visit and SSDI ordered exams in September, they diagnosed tachycardia and nocturia also. I'll take your advice and accept what they say and be very grateful.

Just to add, I had no clue about these new issues till they told me. I chalked the sleep thing on my Depression and legs as a dermitis issue.

Your welcome, looking at the stats for first time approval, I shall appreciate the long term decision and not dwell on the past as it's been a sobering experience after working for 34 years straight.
