Hello. I have saved enough money for a name change, but I am also receiving SSI for my CP. Over the years I've had many problems with Social Security including a false accusation of having 5 thousand dollars worth in stock which took 3 months to appeal during this period they cut off my income and one other time had a hiccup in their system where they accidentally knocked down my income, which took 2 months to address and fix. Since I've had such troubles in the past, I'm not so positive they won't put me in financial jeopardy again, but it's always been about monetary transactions where I have been shafted. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this marriage or otherwise.

If you have gotten married and that is the reason for the name change and your spouse lives with you, his/her income and resources will be deemed available to you the month after marriage. May affect payment.

But if you decided to change your name by court order, you first need to take your court order to get a new Social Security card and then the rest the SSA data bases, including the SSI system and the interface with the Medicaid system, will change your name as well. May take a month or two and you may need to follow up. First place is the SS card. At your local office or a card center.
