What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

I had a services contract in place with a company and it said to finish the contract a 30 days calendar was needed but the company just send me an email ending the relationship without any notice, now I tried to fix the situation in a good way but they just replied that our relationship was finished, is there any legal way to sue the company and at least recover that month's payment? will that be a long, hard and costly process?

Thanks in advance for any help,

What sort of services contract is this?

Does your monthly billing cover services already rendered (that is, do you receive services for a month and are then billed for those services the following month)?

It is software development services, actually he told us to stop working so what was remaining of services to bring wasn't done, but he had to give us a 30 days notice cause that would a least give me some time to relocate my developer and not just break the relationship right away.
