Hi im in illinois

Had a hit and run 4 weeks ago, very LIGHTLY hit a car and fled, it was raining and as i took a turn my car went straight instead of turning so i side swiped a pole, then i continued 2 blocks further and fled by foot.
This was my parents car i was driving, and the police took it and showed up at the door, and my parents told them they dont know who did it.

It has been 4 weeks and they still have the car, no phone calls or anything from them.
My lawyer told me i have to turn myself in to get the car back, but if it has been 4 weeks already shouldnt they have given the vehicle back? It doesn't seem they know who did it.
Every lawyer i call and ask about the situation they are just for the money so i figured i should come on here and ask what i should do.

All i got was a letter for a couple hundred for the pole damage.

If you were my kid, I'd have turned you in.

I hope you realize that you are really screwing your parents by hiding from this, you ungrateful little snot.

Go turn yourself in and take your lumps.

The police know who owns the car involved. They know it was someone in the household.

I bet your parents get paid to work - that's how they can afford a car.

Hint: they think it was you.

So how drunk were you?

You should listen to your lawyer. The vehicle is evidence in an ongoing investigation and they're not going to release it until the investigation can be closed.
