My parents had a summer home in Monticello, NY deeded to both their names. Dad passed away in 2005 leaving everything to mom in his will. Mom passed away in 2015 leaving everything to me in her will, also naming me executor. I probated both their wills in Toms River, NJ. We all lived together in the same home in Brick, NJ, I still do. I'm a NJ resident. The summer home is still in both their names. I wish to change the deed to the my name, can I do this on my own, locally with forms, do I need a lawyer, if I need one can i find one here in Brick, NJ or must i travel to Monticello, NY, how much should this cost, please answer all questions

You will need an ancillary probate in Sullivan County Surrogate Court to transfer ownership of the property. Maybe only for your Mom's estate if the property was owned jointly with right of survivorship and she automatically became owner when your Dad died.

Check with the court to see if you can do it by mail. If not, you will have to go there.

Here's a link to several resources that may give you an idea how to do it. Might even be court forms available:

If you can figure out how to do it without a lawyer the Surrogate Court fees aren't too painful:
