What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arizona. (Resided in California when I originally incurred this debt) On January 29 I decided that it was time to pay a defaulted payday loan I got in 2014 through Cashnet while residing in Santa Monica CA. When I called them (Cash Net Inc.) I was told they sold the debt to another agency. I called them and the same thing until finally I was told to call Premium Asset Services 714 415 93633 as my debt was sold to them. I spoke to a Mr James Evans. He told me that my $300 payday loan was now $454. (I thought it is illegal to charge interest on payday loans in CA!!) He said that P.A.S. won't settle and that they were in the process of suing me before I called and that I will be sued if I don't pay. Anyway I agreed to pay as was my intention when calling them in the first place. So I agreed to pay half which I put on a credit card, which was against my better judgement, as they would not accept any other method of payment, but I did it anyway and I am supposed to pay the other half no later than 2/24/17 as per our verbal agreement. Mr Evans said my card would be charged again on that date. Of course after making the payment and feeling like an idiot for succumbing to his high pressure tactics, I decided to google their company name and what do you know, dozens of forums like this one with nothing but horror show posts regarding Premium Asset Services. Of course I cancelled my credit card so they wouldn’t charge it again. Luckily they didn’t max it out and only charged the agreed amount. So now I have no idea who I paid, if my payment was actually applied towards my real debt etc. Mr James Evans at P.A.S. told me that they do not validate debts My questions are; 1) Are they a real debt collection agency and do they own this particular debt? 2) They are expecting me to pay another $227 payment on 2/24/17. I want to pay this debt as after all, it is mine however, after I part with my money I want this debt satisfied. Please someone advise me as I think I was just robbed. by the way,This debt has not been reported yet to any of the credit bureaus.

Of course it's got bad reviews - people don't like debt collectors.
Why did/do you think it's illegal to charge interest on payday loans in CA? Do you think the money is free?

I'm not talking about bad reviews, i'm talking about multiple fraud and illegal collection practices not to mention multiple lawsuits and judgements against this collection agency. And an attorney told me during initial consult that it IS illegal to calculate additional interest on a payday loan in the state of California on top of the initial fees agreed upon when the loan was originally funded that is unless you are sued. Then of course additional fees are incurred. Unfortunatly I cannot afford representation which is why I am here. Look, i'm just trying to pay this thing off without being ripped off and would like to know how to verify that I paid the right company. By the way, thanks for the advice or should I say, lack thereof.
