I got an MIP in a bar in Georgia. I did not have a drink in my hand and I did not have a fake ID. he only got me because I had a 21 year old wrist band. I turn 21 in less than a month and whenever I go to court I will have turned 21 already. anyone have any idea on what my charges/punishment will be? I live in a college town and the cops are out to get the college kids for sure.

You will want an attorney. Your wristband indicating you were 21 is the same as carrying fake ID. And you do not need to be holding a drink to support the MIP charge.

A first offense MIP/fake ID charge comes on conviction with the possibility of 6 months in jail and a $300 fine. You also wind up with a criminal record that can affect your college attendance and financial aid, your employment opportunities, your travel plans, your insurance and loan rates ...

Fortunately, first time offenders are eligible for a diversion program/conditional discharge if terms of the program are completed to the satisfaction of the court. Terms generally include alcohol testing and education, community service, fines and fees.

You can often find attorneys in college towns who will offer payment plans to students. Your college, too, may offer legal services.

Good luck.

They can only "get the college kids" if the college kids are criminals -- such as you wearing a 21 year old wrist band when you are not. And considering the cops' jobs are to catch criminals -- they did theirs by catching you. If you don't want "gotten" don't break the law.

And I pity a criminal why?
No pity requested or required.

My post was simply to note that the students in Georgia are apparently keeping the officers in Georgia busy.

I also suspect someone somewhere is getting rich selling students fake IDs.
