I hope his responses to forum members were only his (misguided) way of diverting his own attention from his real concerns and the realities he is facing with his mom and her failing health. It is easier to blame the attorney (and us) than it is to accept his mom now needs additional care.

That happens when you live far from your parents (which is the reality for many/most adult children now).

We are fortunate to have settled within easy travel distance of close family. The drive is not always one we can make but flights are short and relatively cheap.

I have no kids (not physically possible for me). My parents are dead and so are my husband's parents. I have one husband, my second, the first one lasted about seven years, this one has lasted about 30 years, so I suspect number 2 may be a keeper. Neither one of us has any siblings (well I have one brother who seems to hate me, he says so every time I call him trying to make amends or whatever he needs - so yes his one child is my nephew, but when I can see this child is...unlikely). So saying "the family" should be involved seems totally weird to me. And possibly to others. Just sayin'

I have to say I find that sad. But I will be the first to say that I have been blessed with a wonderfully close family. We all really like each other.

I was just explaining why getting "the family" involved might not be a viable option for many people.

(And my family was very close and happy until my parents died. Then for some unfathomable reason - really! I have asked him repeatedly and have gotten no answer, ever! - my brother decided to turn away from me. However, I am blessed in that I have a number of very close friends to whom I can turn if I am in need.)

My perceptions are admittedly skewed by my personal experiences and it is good for me to be reminded now and again that my experience with family is not necessarily a shared experience.

Yeah Ee, I am right there with you. Except I hate my brother -- the prodigal son -- and don't speak to a lot of the family. I am an attorney and successful but somehow that makes me the black sheep to my Trump lovin' family.
