What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

Newbie in need of advice here. *Last week i received a letter from a debt collector listing MetaBank as the original creditor but the account number listed appears to be associated with a defaulted WebBank account. From my research and limited memory of this, the account was originally with MetaBank under a different account number. At some point metabank either sold or transferred their accounts to webbank and a new account number was given. At the time the account was transferred or sold it was not in default and was in good standing. What should i do given this discrepancy of the account number not being the one assigned by the original creditor listed. Any advice would be appreciated.

You have the right to request validation of the debt. Read the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act Section 809. It is self explanatory.

My apologies, I just read it but I'm still a bit confused. Can you advise me what was wrong so I can avoid that in the future?

What? I'm so sorry but I legitimately have no idea what you are referencing. I did not promote anything. Can I PM you?

OK. I just joined today not long ago. This is my first time on this site I have no commercial business to promote. I work at your everyday debt litigation firm.

Then the moderator will see that and you can carry on.

Your user name is a commercial business.

You are posting using a commercial business name as your user name and your profile indicates you serve clients.

Again, the moderator is reviewing your profile and your posts.

You had edited that last one so I didn't see it on my last post as to the reason. And yeah that's fine I understand. Definitely coincidence.

Your profile might need to be edited so it seems less intentional and more coincidental. Right now it appears you are advertising your firm. Perhaps the moderator will see it differently.
