What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I purchased a business a few years ago. Today I got a letter from a lawyer saying the former owner is claiming I still owe him 22k. What should I do?

The Price was agreed upon, papers were signed and I gave the former owner a cashier check. I got proof of all that. The former owner hired a lawyer and sent me a letter saying that I sill owe 22k for the business I purchased. They have no proof of any other price than what's in the seller/buyer agreement. What should I do? I don't want to pay him another dime.

You have the signed purchase contract?
You have documentation of payment?

Your options:

1 - Ignore it.
2 - Respond to it with a denial and an admonition to pound sand.
3 - Pay it.
4 - Hire your own lawyer.

Couldn't you figure all that out for yourself?

These are peculiar responses to a demand that you owe someone $22,000: "They have no proof" and "I don't want to pay another dime."
