I am 15 years old, almost 16, and i cant stand living here in north carolina. Ive lived here all my life but things arent the same as they used to be. Me and my parents havent been getting along lately. My grades in school have been dropping and im not allowed to do anything extra curricular. My dad drinks and smokes everyday even though he knows when he smoked i get asthma attacks. The living conditions here are bad. There's **** roaches every where and my house is a mess and theres mice. Living here is leaving a negative effect on my life. I've thought about running away to Hawaii to live with my friend and their parents who are willing to take care of me. My parents wont let me leave until im 18. I want to leave for the better of my future in education and leave for a better life. So if i did run away would i be forced to go back home?

You betcher sweet behind you would. At 15 you live where your parents say you live. If they agree to allow you to live in Hawaii, you can; if they say no, then it's NC for you for the next three years.

And, btw, if you run away anyway and your "friend's" family do not immediately return you to your parents, they can go to jail.

I want to emphasize the point cbg made; the "friends" who would be harboring you could face felony charges which come with extremely harsh penalties. We are not kidding around here.

At 15 (and yes, 16 too), you'd have to change schools .. right? How easy do you think that will be when nobody in Hawaii will have ANY form of legal custody and you won't have legal residency?

If you think you are being abused, tell a trusted adult such as your school counselor or contact child services yourself.

Pick up a mop and broom and clean the house.
