South Carolina; I had a debt from a personal loan company where the manager came to my house and handed my fiancé a copy of the bill. I paid the full amount due a few days later on April 6th this year and have proof. Today I got a letter from small claims court that a judgement has been issued against me for the same amount plus extra court costs. The paperwork says I can appeal with a 150$ fee (SC). Is it legal for them to continue to take action against me after the debt had been paid? What are my rights? I was never served any papers and need to know what I can do or if I should appeal to avoid these fees? If I appeal can I sue them for taking these actions? Now there will be a judgement on my credit report for a debt that I've already paid.
