I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I couldn't find a better category....I currently live in CA, but as I am a military spouse, I have a driver's license from a different state. I recently fainted for the first time in my life. The ER did not seem concerned, but told me to follow up with my PCP just to make sure everything is okay. I did that, and she sent me to a couple specialists for testing. The neurologist told me that he is required by law to report me to the DMV and that until there is an explanation for why I fainted, they will suspend my driver's license (even though the ER sent me home that night to drive alone in my car and never mentioned this to me)-However, I have not received any notifications from the DMV about this, and today, I checked my DMV account via the portal, and there is no notification about my license being suspended. In fact, it says that I am currently licensed. I know for a fact that the DMVs in CA and the state I am licensed through are able to communicate with each other and share information. So, my question is, am I okay to drive as long as my account states that I am a licensed driver without any restrictions? I plan to check it every day to make sure nothing has changed, and to only drive when I absolutely need to. Thank you in advance for any advice!

All license activity is reported to the NDR. If California yanks your license, you may find it difficult getting licensed elsewhere without appropriate medical clearance.

I'm not looking to get licensed elsewhere, I'm just trying to get advice as to whether or not it is okay for me to drive right now since my license has not been suspended, even though the doctor said that it will be. Thank you!

Legally, until your license has been suspended by the DMV, it is valid. However, you might still be liable (perhaps even criminally) if you continue to drive and potentially have a medical condition that may render you unsafe to operate a motor vehicle.

If CA suspends you, even if valid in another state, you would not be able to drive in CA.
