What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Alabama

Not sure if this is the right section, but I was just charged a late fee on my storage unit. I was not informed that there was a missed payment, nor was I informed of the late payment itself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't storage companies required by law to notify you before charging you a late fee?

Before we go into all that, you probably signed a paper when you first got the storage unit.

Take out that paper, put it on the table in front of you, read it, and tell us what it says your due date is and what happens when you pay late.

I'll tell you exactly what happens. You get a late fee. Just like you would anywhere else. OP, you know when your storage rent is due. When you don't pay on time, you get a late fee.

And if you fail to make your payments, they can possibly lock up and then auction off the contents of your unit.

They most definitely can and will auction your unit for non-payment if enough time has passed. Unless you are in the military and happen to be on deployment. There are different rules for that.
