What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

On Thursday 6th July 2017 I went to a reputed dealer in Charlotte, NC to test drive a car. I liked it and we agreed on a price and everything. I had to send my bank the sales agreement so they can send my check. So I got the sales agreement, paid $500 deposit for the car and then told him I will be back on Friday around 7pm with the check and my wife (as the car was supposed to be on her name). There was a delay on the processing and I didn't get my check from the bank until Saturday. So I called the salesman on friday around 5 and told him, there is a bit delay from the bank and i will be picking up the car on Tuesday. Saturday morning the salesman called me and told me the dealer is trying to block the car for someone else. I told him not to do that and I will be there in the afternoon, finish the documentation and pick up the car as I already have the check. He said ok. He called me again to confirm of i have the check and i told him yes. In the afternoon when i went to the dealer, the boss of the salesman came to me and told me that they sold the car. What to do, is there any legal advice here?

As long as they give you your 500.00 back no, there really isn't anything that you can do. If they attempt to keep your 500.00 then you might have some cause of action.

But how can they sell the car to someone even after giving me the bill of sale for the loan and taking the money from me without any consequence?

They gave you the paperwork when you said you'd have the check on Friday. You didn't have the check on Friday. They give you your money back, they're good.
