What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Alabama

I check my credit report two or three times a year. I checked yesterday and saw a collections account on it with the name of Convergent Outsourcing. It had Sprint as the original creditor and it was posted to my report two months ago. I have not had sprint service in over three years, and have never received anything in the mail regarding a past due bill with them, nor do I ever recall owning them anything more once I left them when my contract was up. If they have called, they did not leave a voicemail, as I don't answer numbers I do. Or recognize. I have not contacted them yet in any way, and wanted to request a debt validation but I also know that it is past the 30 days since it was posted to my report. What are my options? What is the best way to handle this problem? Thank you.

Happens all the time and everybody gets in a huff about finding out without ever having been told. So far the collection agency hasn't done anything illegal so you'll have to deal with it as best you can.

Most people misunderstand that debt validation thing. Google FDCPA and read that section.

It doesn't prevent you from sending a written demand for proof of debt at any time and it's probably the best way to start handling it at this point.

Meantime, start reconstructing your Sprint records from back then.
