What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Iowa. Recently divorced, got stuck with the car and loan I had bought for my ex. I wasn't making enough to insure my vehicle and that one so I sold mine. The day I picked up the car I rear-ended someone before I was able to get the policy switched over to that car. Insurance company denied claim because it had been on my policy previously with my ex so they said it didn't qualify as a replacement vehicle, which was provided for in the policy. Do the circumstances hold any ground against their decision? I've since been sued by the other driver, forced to turn in my license and registration, and upon release of judgement I now have an sr22 requirement

The car was always yours, so it's not a replacement vehicle. Sorry.

No.

Your policy provides automatic coverage for a "newly acquired vehicle" provided that you ask the company to insure it within 14 days (maybe 30 on some policies) "after you become the owner."

Read your policy and you'll confirm that.

You became the owner a long time before the accident.

I've since been sued by the other driver, forced to turn in my license and registration, and upon release of judgement I now have an sr22 requirement
That's unfortunate.

NEVER get behind the wheel of any car without verifying that it's insured.

Lesson learned the hard way.
