Shoplifting Kohl's lists prevention employee wouldn't listen I have all receipts

Shoplifting charge from Kohl's. I had brung some pants in to compare them to another size and to get all colors, I went to the service desk for a return and told the lady what I washing to do, I had the receipt on my phone in my Kohl's up, I put the pants in my purse I had 3 different pair again I done this in front of the customer service desk. I proceeded to go to the children's department I walked around checking different one and brands as doing so I checked them them put the ones I paid for back in my bag. The one pair I was getting I put in the cart. Walked around more just looking I alwYs do this shopping and had never shoplifted anything. I went back to make sure the Levi's brand wasn't too much bigger than Kohl's brand that I had purchased. After paying I stopped right at the door and put one of the pair in the bag. The loss prevention officer came after me after I was out the door and said come with me. Told me what he saw me do, I said I bought these in with me I have my receipt on my phone, I not the type of person to cause a seen, he don't want to listen to me. I said I'll pay for them again and take it up with my Kohl's charge. I said these are for my grandson for school, they live in Alaska. I have to sent them to him. He wouldn't listen to nothing I had to say. There were a total of $37 with my discounts. While sitting there I take the other 2 pair out of my bag to put in the store bag with the other pair I had just purchased, he take them away from me and sold I stolen them too, I said I didn't take anything I have all my receipts. He was head set on this. He called the police. The officer was very nice by this point I was afraid of being take to jail over the plods prevention s man lies. I just didn't say anything else you made me sign papers saying I would never come in again. I forgot this he said where are the Levi's, I said I don't have any Levi's. I only gave Kohl's brands. So I thank what happened was the young lady at the Levi section in the boys department went and told him I was take jeans and stealing them, all I did was compare them to the ones I had an size 7x to 8. Long story short the offficer wrote it all down gave me a copy, didn't take me in. As the police and I walked out I told him the guy just wouldn't listen to me and that I had receipts for everything, he told me talk to the prosecutor 1st and to take all my proof to my court date and it would probably be dismissed. So I have copies of everything. The guy even kept all the pants even the ones I had just paid for at the cashier, the one color I hadn't ordered. So I came straight home and add to order them all 4 pair and have them sent to Alaska cause they don't have a Kohl's near them it 4 hours away. I have copied all that too. What do I need to do? I can't have any charges on my record cause of job coming up. I'm a 50 something disabled housewife with 2 knee replacementsi I'm not going to put myself in a position to be took down and injured, that's why I didn't cause a seen. I order everything online. Im going to take our Kohl's statements showing I paid for all things and double paid for the 4 pair of boy jeans. Any advice would be appreciated. This is the craziest thing I've ever experienced. Confused consumer over hot headed loss prevention employee.

I would definitely contact KOHL's corporate office and complain about the treatment you received and I would also draft a formal complaint to your regional store.

What was the value of the items KOHL's is claiming you shoplifted?

Here is a link to the shoplifting laws in Georgia: http://www.shopliftingprevention.org/georgia-shoplifting-laws/

With your receipts, you seem to have good evidence to refute the theft charge. You also have a witness at the customer service desk who saw you come in with pants for comparison purposes.

You are probably best off having an attorney in your area assist you.

Good luck.

Merchandise total was $37 with discounts from my receipts but he stated regular price was $72 and was making jokes about how much this was going to cost me now.
Thanks

I would complain to the corporate office. You probably will not get a response while a legal action against you is pending, but KOHL'S should be made aware of the actions of their security officers and how you were treated.

Here is a link to KOHL'S corporate office where you can find an address and a phone number: https://corporate.kohls.com/company/contact-us

You would benefit from speaking to an attorney in your area. Good luck.

And in the future, if you do such a thing again, bring the item you own in a separate bag. Even if you don't have that store's bag, a grocery bag will do. A quick stop at the customer service desk prior to shopping would have also headed this off.

foxcabin,

You are going to get a letter from Kohls demanding several hundred dollars in civil restitution. You might send a letter in response to that demand with a full outline of what happened (with receipts actually printed out) and stating that the Loss Prevention Officer kept not only the goods you brought in with you, but the goods you had just paid for at the time. You can carbon copy that letter (and put on your letter that you are CC'ing other people. CC the Kohls store manager, Kohls Headquarters and have extra copies available for use in court.

Its disgusting that the Loss Prevention Officer would not acknowledge that you paid for all of the goods in your possession. He basically stole them from you.

Ajkoy,
I did have it in a bag, taking them in and out comparing the sizes it ripped that's when I just laid them atop my purse in the buggy as well, when I was getting my stuff of of my buggy one pair fell out it was a very bag, so I grabbed it all and put it in the bag that was given to me at checkout. I had just done a return and told the lady at the service desk what I was going to do. Funny thing I had a Vera purse big one and Vera wang wallet my daughter spent me for Mother's Day. I was afraid he was going to take it.

Ldij,

I order most of my stuff on line from Kohl's so my receipts are on my phone or Kohl's .com and I have my Kohl's bill. My daughter is Military so that's how I have to shop. I had to place an order for the pants he kept cause I promised my grandson. I have printed everything out.

You are going to need multiple hard copies of those receipts so make sure that you get all of them.
