I want to know about the legal implications of favicon. I create one for my personal website in this way. My favicon is a thematic map. I created it by generating the map in a software and after I exported it to jpeg and then I used a plugin of wordpress to export the image as favicon.ico. Although I created the favicon myself (I did not take any image from internet), I am affraid that maybe another company or person have a very similar favicon or maybe a logo that it is similar to my favicon (in an extreme scenario may be exactly the same).

Then I want to know: In case that my favicon is similar to the favicon of another website, can I face any legal risk or implication?
Also I want to know also: In case that my favicon is similar to the logo of any company (or person), can I face any legal risk or implication?

Kind Regards,

Reynaldo

If the other site's icon is a trademark of theirs, then you can be in trouble for infringing on their mark if yours is close enough to be confusing with theirs.
Take the funky V on this site. It's the trademark of Internet Brands the people who write the forum software that this site uses.

What is the name of your state, Reynaldo, or, if not in the US, what is the name of your country?

Logos are company trademarks.

Trademarks are used to distinguish one company's goods and services from the goods or services of all other companies. Trademark law centers on consumer confusion. Logos can be similar - even substantially similar - if consumers are not confused as to the origin of the business goods or services that the trademarks identify.

For an example of two logos that are similar, look at Ford's blue oval and Carriers blue oval. What distinguishes them are the trademark names and the fact that the companies market different goods.

To avoid a risk of infringing, you should do a thorough search of marks both registered and unregistered and/or see an IP attorney in whatever area of the world you happen to reside.

Good luck.
