Can someone put a watermark on top of my watermark without permission?

I live in NC. I have a photography business, and I did a shoot in conjunction with another photographer. He asked if he could post my pictures on his site, which he does with other photographers. We, with him agreeing, were considered independent contractors. So, I watermarked my photos, and he brought up placing his watermark on top of mine. I expressed my displeasure, and again stated that we were independent from his site, and had allowed him to use the photos as content, but as the photographer, who represents my business, with no agreement, verbal or otherwise, he placed the watermark on top of my own. I again stated that this was not something that was okay with me, however the photos remain.

Who took the photos?

If you took the photos, the other photographer cannot replace your watermark with his. If you worked on the photographs together, you can hold joint copyrights in the photographs, however.

I am not entirely sure what sort of agreement you and the other photographer have.
