What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
I'm in Louisiana.

I've been a consumer with Equifax for a few years with a premium membership I was paying $20 a month

for to make sure I'm not a victim of identity theft again. In June someone used my info bank info to

make multiple purchases on iTunes. I had to dispute all the purchases and get a new debit card. I

since then stop using equifax as of August 2017 and just found out now through an online news story

that they were hacked in July. I never got an email or anything personally from them notifying me of

the breach. While I assume I'm not alone in this problem I actually have damages that may have been connected

to the breach and a paying customer. Any advice on legal actions I could take?

I answered your question once already and you deleted your thread.

In your first thread, you said you were not notified by Equifax of any security breach. No one to my knowledge was personally notified of the data breach. MOST people learned about the Equifax hacking from news reports.

Now you, and 143 million+ other people, are wondering how to sue this credit reporting agency.

There will be class action suits. There will also be private actions taken by those who can demonstrate they have been harmed. But, while it is definitely time to explore legal options, it is probably not the best time to TAKE legal action. The extent of the damages are not yet known.

The smartest thing for most people to do right now could be to freeze their credit on each of the three major credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experion, TransUnion). A credit freeze is purportedly being offered for free by Equifax but you will have to pay the other agencies.

If you want to start documenting your losses and if you want to consult with an attorney in your area, you can do this now. You can use AttorneyPages.com or your state Bar Association to find legal assistance.

But again, I think it might be too early to file a suit. The attorney you see can advise you better on this after a personal review.

Good luck.

Oh, ok, I thought I might have posted in the wrong place or did something wrong. That's why I reposted. Thanks for the advice. That's a good enough reply to clear my mind.

I am sure there will be a lot more news published about the data breach in the coming days, as more is learned about the Equifax hacking and its hackers. The news should include clearer directions for all of the victims of the breach on what they can do now that their personal information has been compromised.

Good luck.
