I’ve recently received phone calls from J.G. at 855xxxxxxx claiming he was from a litigation company. They told me I was being charged with fraud, writing bad checks and breach of contract from a payday loan I took out in 2016. They said the case hadn’t been filed yet with my home county but said if it went to court I would have to pay over $1900 in court costs and such. They said if I took care of it with them over the phone it would only total out to $520. I then got off the phone with them and called back asking for the name of their company when the man who answered the phone got an attitude with me and told me that he wasn’t required to give me the name of their company. Is this sometime I should worry about or is it just another scam? State of Missouri

Well, if you didn't take out that loan, it certain is a scam. Surprised you got someone on the phone, most are from spoofed numbers these days.

If you did have such a loan, it sounds like a pretty dubious collection effort as well. I'd ignore them and resolve your debt with the payday loan people directly.

I'd recommend you not call these people back. It adds you to the SUCKER list either way,.

You can start to worry when you are sued over nonpayment of a payday loan.

In the meantime, you can tell the caller to stop calling or you can block the calls or you can ignore the calls.

If/when you are served with a summons and complaint, having an attorney assist you with your response is a good idea.
