I am in Canada and the book is Copyright from USA>

My question is:

If there was a book that was copied,
I purchased this book from someone who told me they were allowed to make copies of this book and sell them. ( I have receipt)
Turns out that they were lying.

Can I still continue to use this book. Can I get in trouble for using this book?

Under US laws, you could continue to read the book. If you try to share it or sell it, however, you can find yourself sued.

If sued by the copyright holder, it would be in a Canadian court under Canadian copyright laws.

The "someone" who copied and sold the infringing books could be in a lot of trouble legally if discovered by the copyright holder.
