Bought a boat that the salesmen stated had running engine, took it out on the water and the engine was not in working order. The dealer took it back and stated they would fix it. It has been 2 months and they have made no progress and fail to call me back. What can I do to ensure they fix the problem in a somewhat timely manner? Wisconsin

Sue for your money back in small claims court.

Unfortunately I already had stuck a fair amount of money into fixing up the thing and would rather not return it. I also ha rewired the lights and such and would rather not eat that cost because it wasn't cheap.

Then have someone else do the needed work, and sue the dealer.

This doesn't make sense - in your original post you said the dealer still had it and in this post, you imply that you have it (by saying you'd rather not return it.)

Was the boat sold "as-is"? If yes, why didn't you have it inspected by a mechanic? Absent a specific warranty, once you bought it you bought it. If fact, if you sue (as was suggested above), you will likely lose because you can't prove that the dealer did anything wrong.

OP must be a fishing guy (knowing how they are often loose with truth) who bought a worn out fishing boat and is here trolling for suckers. And yet he could have dumped all that money in it either before he first put it in the water or afterwards while it has been sitting in the dealer's lot for two months.

Of course, anyone foolish enough to have owned a boat knows that their principal feature is a moving hole in the water in which you pour money.
