Recieved a summons not sure if its legit. Machol & johannes llc.

A man came to my house and gave me a summons , he asked my name gave me the papers and said "i dont know what the heck this is." The summons is lvnv funding llc vs me , there is no number no stamp not signed by county clerk , letter states summons (20 days) starts out by saying in bold letters THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO COLLECT A DEBT etc... as it does on most of the pages after that. The last two pages are forms from their office to set up payments with them. All in all just not sure about it i read through some of it i did spot a typo where it says "pray" where it should say" Pay". I searched court records i am not listed anywhere. The office it is from is machol& johannes llc the debt is about $1000 even and i live in washington state. Any info would be appreciated ive got letters from them before but they all seem pretty shady!

All in all it sounds like a pretty clever way to get you to pay an alleged debt.

It may simply be a personally delivered collection letter. There is nothing illegal about doing that. However, if the documents are made to appear as if they are court filings when in fact they are not then the collector has violated the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), assuming that this is a consumer debt.
