Hi, I'm writing from Brazil, South America.
My father died many years ago and my mother died much latter. After my mother's death I found some original Merrill Lynch account statements, lost in my mother's house. I tried to get information about this account from Bank of America / Merrill Lynch, but they are all very concerned about privacy. All that I have are those old statements. Also, I know that the bank account branch was in USA, not in Brazil, and that the account was closed before my mother's death. So, being an account linked to an American bank branch, American laws are applied, right?
In fact I'm worried about what happened with the account, because I got all statements from my mother's Brazilian bank accounts, and there are no extra deposits, except for her pensions. So, when and how the account was closed? She was pretty old, unfortunately old people are susceptible to be deceived.
So, my question is: heir sons have the right to get bank statements from dead parents, even if the account was closed before the death date?
Actually, more then being her heir, I'm her executrix.
Thank you very much in advance!
